The 50th Nordic Fest in Decorah, Iowa is not that far away, scheduled for the last Thursday, Friday and Saturday of July in 2016. Local volunteers organized the first Nordic Fest in July 1967, starting their planning one year in advance of the first event. Those volunteers focused on non-commercialism and authenticity. This focus has maintained and sustained Nordic Fest for nearly five decades. The 50 years of Nordic Fest includes many stories worthy of sharing, including:
- How the first Nordic Fest came together
- The impact on local nonprofits from Nordic Fest, due to its non-commercial focus
- A long legacy of selfless volunteers who have developed Nordic Fest
- Fifty years of memories for many thousands of Decorah residents, natives and guests
